The Team
Ka'ohimanu Dang Akiona, MD
Ka'ohimanu Dang Akiona earned her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Before, during and since the pandemic, she has worked tirelessly to advocate for access and equity in health care from education, testing, vaccination and treatment, focusing on the highest risk, the vulnerable and the marginalized. She and her team developed effective mobile care models that focused on bringing doctor's care to where it is needed most- including community and street medicine outreach, care for the homebound, and even houseless. She strives to improve access to care for all, especially our frontline essential workers.
In her current capacity, she will provide direct patient care as well as aesthestics and skin care support, while maintaining her relationships with University of Hawai`i in Hilo as their Team Doctor, and with Pacific Basin Telehealth Resource Center and Kuleana Health as community physician consultant. She is also working hard to recruit other much needed providers to join the fight for better access to care.
Natalie Kehau Kong, MD
Natalie Kehau Kong, MD graduated from John a Burns School of Medicine, attended residency in Arizona and committed to extra fellowship training to be one of few Family Medicine physicians able to practice full-spectrum OB/Gyn care. She currently teaches medical students, resident physicians and physician assistants with local and stateside schools.
Soft-spoken but grounded in her culture, Dr Kong brings a balanced emphasis on working hard, enjoying life while ALWAYS learning, and striving to be good stewards of our land, our language and culture, and our family's legacy.

Dr Coleen Haynes has joined the practice part time to support our mission for better access to care.

Mark Knox, MD
Dr Knox has practiced full spectrum Family Medicine in a number of academic and progressively more rural locations. He recently retired but Dr Akiona knows the community still needs his good heart, great humor and stellar clinical skills. Humble but incredibly skilled , he provides extensive knowledge and guidance to our team and patients.
He lives in Hilo with his lovely wife and pupper. He has two awesome grown children (including a son who is a spine surgeon) and 2 grandsons. He plays the bagpipes and has practiced martial arts for the greater part of his life. He has taught countless physicians and is one of Dr Akiona's personal heroes.
Dee Nishioka, RN, Chief Nurse- Safety and Training
Dee has extensive community AND hospital experience and provides our nursing backbone as well as regular entertainment and laughs. She is an avid tennis and pilates and overall exercise enthusiast, has 2 amazing children and loves her animals. If you are ever in need of a belly laugh AND some expert nursing care, come visit with Ms Dee!
